Myelodysplastic syndrome with pure red cell aplasia shows characteristic clinicopathological features and clonal T-cell expansion.
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a clonal haematopoietic stem-cell disorder characterised by ineffective haematopoiesis that often exhibits morphological dysplasia and increased erythroid precursors in the bone marrows. MDS with pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a rare form of MDS that has been proposed by some to represent a novel and distinct entity {Park et al, 2000; Garcia-Suarez et al, 1998; Williamson et al, 1991). However, the clmicopathological features and underlying pathophysiology of PRCA in the setting of MDS are not well-understood, probably due to the rarity of cases.
